My dog Peanut is getting older and having trouble jumping. I think she may have dog arthritis. She likes to sleep on the bed with me, but gets up and down several times a night. This was beginning to be a problem because when she could not jump on the bed I would get up and help her. I decided we needed a solution so that I could get a restful nights sleep. So I created her a dog ottoman.
I used an inexpensive ottoman base and created a slipcover to match my bedding. I bought the ottoman at a local thrift store. I had a sheet from my bedding that I purchased to make a window covering.
Materials:
Square basic ottoman
Twin size bed sheet
1. Measure and cut your fabric. I used the trim of the sheet for the skirt and the main part of the sheet for the top. Here are the measurements:
Top piece: Cut one piece
Width - Measure the width and add 1"
Length - Measure the length and add 1"
Skirt: Cut four panels
Length - Measure from the top of the ottoman to the floor and add 2"
Width - Measure the width of each side and add 1"
2. Sew the skirt. Sew the four panels together with a 1/2" seam allowance. Stop 1/2" from the top of each panel.
3. Sew a hem in the bottom of the skirt. Turn in 1 1/4" at the bottom and press. Turn under 1/4" and stitch close to the edge.
4. Sew on the top. Sew the top panel onto the sides with a 1/4" seam allowance.
5. Turn cover right side out and put over ottoman.
I tapped on top of the bed and Peanut jumped right up. She hasn't woke me up since I put this at the foot of the bed. I love it too for putting on my shoes. It's washable and doesn't take up a lot of room.
