I created this shabby chic picture frame to dress up the space above my bed. My sister gave me the vintage window from an old house. The steps of this project are simple with a fun result.
Materials:
Old Window
Paint Scraper
Painters tape
Acrylic Paint
Antiquing Medium
Foam Stamps
Window Cling - printable
1. Scrap loose paint off the window frame and clean. The cleaner that hooks up to a hose makes quick work of this task.
2. Mask off glass with painters tape. Paint frame your choice of colors. I selected a nice pink.
3. The pink was much brighter than I anticipated. I toned the color down and aged it with antiquing medium. Simply put it on with a paper towel and then wipe off.
4. I added stamped detail using foam stamps and cream paint. I did this on the corners and in the middle of the top, sides and bottom of the frame.
5. I printed come of my digital photos on window cling made for the printer. First I changed the color to Sepia. Sized them and printed. This is my favorite part of the frame. I can change out the photos whenever I like simply by peeling off one and sticking on another.
Note: Images without a lot of white work best. I found my nature shots worked better than my people shots.
6. I put hangers on the back of the frame to hang. This is heavy so either screw into the studs or use anchor screws.
Note: This frame would have looked really nice with the original finish too. I recommend sealing it with a matte varnish to keep the paint from peeling in the house.
